With more and more people discovering the joys of eco-tours and organic and natural vacations, it is only natural that anyone who is trying to live a more organic, natural, or eco-friendly lifestyle would really enjoy this type of vacation.

However, not everyone can afford vacations to exotic places, or live in an area where they can experience an organic food festival or food trail. But, that doesn’t mean that you can’t still enjoy an eco-friendly and natural day trip or complete vacation. In fact, designing your own eco-friendly vacation just may be more fun and more exciting than you ever imagined.

A Little Bit Of Research

Taking the time to do just a little bit of research may just reveal some great natural and ecologically sound places to visit almost right in your own backyard. There are plenty of national parks, nature preserves, and other types of natural venues just waiting for you to explore.

Many states and countries now have long distance hiking, and biking trails, not to mention some pristine beaches, wilderness campgrounds, and lakes, rivers, and ponds where you can kayak and canoe.

National Parks and Wilderness Campgrounds

National parks and wilderness campgrounds offer families and individuals a unique opportunity to explore nature right in their own regions. These campgrounds usually offer what is known as “rough or no amenities camping” which means there are no public showers, bathrooms, or other facilities. You simply set up your tent or camper and enjoy exploring the area and some spectacular views while communing with nature.

Many wilderness camping areas are located on lakes or rivers making it possible to swim, fish, kayak or canoe. Some have nature trails made by past explorers. Depending on what country, region, or geographical area these campgrounds are in, you can discover a variety of different plant and animal life while enjoying a relaxing vacation away from cell phone towers and other modern conveniences and intrusions.

It is always a good idea to pack along a bird or plant book for the area so you can recognize the plants and birds you see, and a good book on the constellation makes for a wonderful night of stargazing.

For those who want to embrace the organic and natural lifestyle, you can try cooking that freshly caught fish, on a stick over an open fire, and maybe enjoy picking some wild strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, or other fruit.

Nature Preserves

For those looking for a great way to spend a day in a natural outing or setting, nature preserves are fantastic places to visit. Many countries have large preserves that you can hike or bike through, but they also have many smaller preserves where you can spend an enjoyable couple of hours on an afternoon.

There are usually plenty of flowering plants and odd wildlife to observe, so you might want to bring your camera along and catch nature at it’s best.

Hiking and Biking Trails

Most areas in the world have trails for those wishing to enjoy a day of hiking and biking. Some trails cover hundreds of miles and pass through a variety of different small towns, villages, and wilderness areas. Many of these trails even have small camping areas where you pitch a tent for the night if you are planning on travelling a long distance on the trails.

Try an Organic Camp

Though few and far between, Organic camps are beginning to pop up in a variety of places. These camps are normally run in connection with a large organic farm, and entire families get the opportunity to work on the farm, as well as partake in a variety of eco-friendly activities and crafts.

Some of these camps even teach those who are interested about different wild organic foods and plants with medicinal properties. Depending on the camp, participants have options of kayaking, swimming, hiking, rock climbing, and a number of other actives. Taking care not to disturb nature and reducing your footprint when you leave the area is stressed.

To find organic or eco-friendly activities for your outing or vacation, do an Internet search, call the local forestry or DNR office, or check with the local tourism board. Taking a little time to find what is available will allow you to plan a fun and exciting eco-friendly outing of your own choosing to fit your own budget.

Have you ever designed your own vacation or adventure? What was your best ever adventure or vacation?
