Organically Engaging Your Infant’s Developing Awareness

When your child first arrives into the world, he finds himself in a brand new world where everything about him is new and different. It doesn’t take long until that tiny human being sets out to learn about the world. He develops his awareness of his surroundings, his home, and the world at large, through sound, shape, smell, taste, touch, and sight.

He not only will spend the next several years growing physically, but also developing an awareness of “family” and “self.”

In most cases, the first awareness an infant will have is of his basic needs, he knows when he is hungry, wet, or uncomfortable and learns to convey these needs through his cries. He then becomes aware of you as the source of that gentle touch, that unique smell, and the one that meets his needs with gentleness and love.

Soon he will be reaching out to learn about himself and the world around him. He will become fascinated with his hands, and toes, kicking his legs, and moving about. Next, he will be reaching for objects, and tasting everything from his own hand or foot, to his blanket and various toys.

Whether or not you realize it, from the moment your baby is born, you begin engaging his developing awareness, by rubbing his back, singing to him, bathing him, and simply holding and feeding him. Later you engage your infant by choosing age appropriate toys for him, to help him explore and develop those beginning basic skills.

As a parent, you chose your baby’s toys carefully for them, making sure that there are no small pieces that can come off for your baby to swallow, toys that are easy for them to handle and manipulate, and that won’t cause them hurt or harm should they bop themselves when waving that toy around.

However, there is one more thing you should consider when choosing those toys for your baby, and that is the hidden dangers posed by the multitude of chemicals used in those toys that he is playing with.

Why Choose Organic Toys To Help Develop Your Infants Awareness

Choosing organic toys for your baby is a safer way to help him develop his awareness and keep him both happy and healthy. A study in 2008 found that almost all children’s toys contain toxic poisons, including both arsenic and lead, and while new regulations forced the reduction of these poisons, they did not eliminate them.

Chemicals and other toxins in children’s items have been linked to severe infant allergies, eye infections, breathing difficulties, and other non specific health problems.

  • True organic toys contain no chemicals. The materials for these toys are grown without the aid of chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Manufacturing of these products are done without the use of chemicals, and the coloring and paint used to make these toys interesting for your child are plant based, and made chemical and dye free.

  • Organic toys contain no chemical fire retardants that can leach into your babies system when rubbed against their skin or placed in their mouths.

  • Organic toys cause less irritation to your babies eyes, skin, and lungs.

  • Organic toys are just as appealing to your infant as non or organic toys and are made from a wide variety of materials including cotton, wool, bamboo, and wood.

Toys are a very important part of your baby’s growing awareness and development, and choosing the safest toys possible for your infant can result not only in your baby developing happily, but also in fewer doctor visits, rashes, eye irritations, and allergies, which will make playtime even more enjoyable for both your child and you.

Do you worry about your child’s development? How do you engage with your infant? What has worked well for you?
